A group exemption number (GEN) is a 4 digit number assigned by the IRS to the central/parent organization of a group that has a group exemption letter. Only organizations that are included in a group exemption receives the GEN from the IRS.
However, if your organization isn't included as one of the subordinates in a group return for the tax year, then you must file your annual information return, Form 990-EZ individually with the IRS.
